2D Seismic QC – analysis

The 2D Seismic QC panel

This panel is activated from the project data layer shown within the Project Explorer tree view.  The QC panel is sub-divided into six panels each showing a different aspect of the data file (header and record block), QC results (Line Summary, Line Statistics and Point Summary) and the Audit Trail.

Line Summary panel

The line summary panel provides an inventory of the lines contained within the project database.  The line information is displayed along with a colour coding to indicate whether the line has passed or failed to QC tests.  Lines indicated in RED illustrate the lines where problems were found.

Line Summary panel

The line summary panel provides a view of the results of the statistical tests performed.  A comprehensive series of statistical QC tests are run to determine potential errors the data.  The tests include:

  • Duplicate line names, positions and events
  • Outliers / blunders (spikes)
  • Missing events (source / receivers / CDP related)
  • Event, azimuth, distance, timing and increment errors

Tabular and graphical views of the QC reports are provided.  The tables cover line summaries, line statistics and point summaries.  There are additional tables to view file headers and the data audit trail.

Point Summary panel

The point summary panel provides details of the QC routines performed on each event point of the imported lines.

All tests are performed against user specified tolerance values.  These values constitute the threshold values against which a test passes or fails.  The results of the QC are shown on the panel and points failing the tests are colour coded against the tests they fail.  A key to the codes are shown on the left of the panel and the actual data failing the tests is shown within the right hand panel.

Audit trail

The final panel provides an audit trail to display what events have happened to the data contained within the project, including importing, editing and exporting.

The audit panel can be queried to show events of only a specific category or events having taken place between certain dates.  The contents of the audit trail can be saved to text file and viewed external of the application.

Data graphs

To compliment the data tables are graphs to show various aspects of the data.  An example of the graphs is shown as follows:
